Titled: "Gone Too Soon" .."The invisible wounds and scars don't need to be bourne alone" is the original expression on the bottom of the pencil and watercolor. This painting was inspired and painted on January 1, 2019 after hearing of the suicide of a beloved yogi teacher in the yoga community. It was a practitioner who silently suffered from depression. He loved cars and animals. As Shannon shared with Erica his tragic loss, Erica visualized this painting of the pets comforting the humans left behind, forever watching the distant horizon for a ship that will never return. However there is a terrible beauty felt in the "widow's watch" for there is a knowing that we will all meet one day on the other side.
Some additional notes: the 'Cuda is one of Erica's favorite muscle cars from the early 1970's. The female form is softly based on her "self-portrait" from the back, another nod to Andrew Wyeth who would incorporate his back into many of his paintings.
